ETNIA BARCELONA

More than an eyewear brand, Etnia Barcelona is an attitude. It is the fusion of art, colour and Mediterranean light in a design object that challenges convention without losing its elegance.

In the crowded world of eyewear, few brands manage to have a voice as unmistakable as Etnia Barcelona's. Its frames are not just accessories; they are statements for those who look at the world with curiosity and courage. Today we dive into the story of this Catalan house that has won over the world with colour and quality.

Rebel Roots: A Family Story

Although Etnia Barcelona was officially born in the early 2000s, its soul was forged much earlier. The story begins in the 1950s with Fulgencio Ramo, the current founder's grandfather, who worked at the eyewear factory of a major company. In time, the family set up its own workshop in Poble Sec, Barcelona.

The turning point came with the third generation. David Pellicer, the current CEO, grew up surrounded by frames and developed a deep knowledge of the craft. But David had a vision that clashed with the market of the time: the eyewear world was boringly brown and black.

With a rebellious spirit and a need to break the mould, David decided that his brand would not make black glasses. His mission was to inject colour and culture into a grey industry. That is how Etnia Barcelona was born.

Bold yet Timeless: The Design Paradox

How can something be extremely colourful and, at the same time, an instant classic? This is Etnia's best-kept secret.

The Art of Colour

Etnia Barcelona does not use colour at random. Its designers work with more than 400 different shades, drawing constant inspiration from art, photography and Barcelona's architecture.

Its famous collaborations with the archives of artists such as Yves Klein, Basquiat and David Bowie show that it understands colour as an emotional language. It does not chase loud neon, but sophisticated combinations (blue tortoiseshells, graduated reds, transparent acetates with veins of colour) that bring the face to life.

Shapes That Last

This is where its genius lies: the boldness is in the colour and texture, but the structure is classic. Etnia takes iconic shapes (the panto, the aviator, the 1950s cat-eye) and reinvents them through its exclusive acetates.

The result is a pair of glasses that catches the eye with its vibrancy but never feels like a "costume". They are designs made to be worn for years, standing up to the pace of fast trends thanks to their balanced silhouettes.

Quality You Can Feel: Natural Acetate and Mineral Glass

Bold design would be pointless without exceptional construction. Etnia Barcelona describes itself as "Anartist", a blend of anarchist and artist, but its commitment to quality is very serious.

  • Natural Mazzucchelli Acetate: all of its plastic frames are made with naturally sourced acetate (cotton and wood) from the best Italian manufacturer. This guarantees deep colours, a warm feel and a hypoallergenic, sustainable material.
  • Mineral Glass Lenses: in a world dominated by plastic, Etnia uses pure Barberini mineral glass in its sunglasses. They deliver the sharpest vision in the world, are scratch-resistant and provide unmatched UV protection.

A Look to the Future

Choosing Etnia Barcelona means choosing a piece of design that tells a story. It is for those who understand that glasses are the first thing others see of us, and that this first impression should be full of life, art and character.
